Description
I try and grade all my albums according to Record Collector Gradings below. PLEASE READ CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS AND IF YOU DON’T LIKE THEM PLEASE DON’T BID.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
This is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Topic record label and you are bidding on an original first pressing of Ewan MacColl’s classic album ‘Chorus From The Gallows’ on Topic which also features Peggy Seeger on banjo. This is listed under English folk as Ebay doesn’t have a category for British folk. So no offence intended to Scottish or Welsh buyers.
The vinyl is VG. There are a few light scratches to both sides, some of which look like paper scratches and none of which can be felt so I would be very surprised if they made any difference to play. Memory tells me that the album plays right through with no jumps or sticks and little appreciable surface noise. There is a mark at the beginning of track 3 side one which I don’t think will affect play but it runs round the grooves at the start, rather than across it.

The cover by West Bros. of Mitcham is VG+. There is a mark on the front top RHS where a sticker has been removed and light ringwear is visible. There is virtually no edgewear and the spine is tight. The fold over seams on the rear are completely intact and apart from what looks like a small ink stain at the top the rear is almost unblemished. There are small corner ‘dings’ at the opening edge.
This is a key album in the british folk revival of thr late 50s and early 60s.I offer my money-back guarantee (buyer pays return postage) should this not live up to the description above but I doubt that you’ll be disappointed; my 100% feedback is important to me.
