Description
Extremely rare audio-verité album recorded on site in 1967 at Tiki Gardens, a 12-acre “exotic” tourist destination in Indian Shores, Florida. Owner Frank and Jo Byars narrate a walk through Tiki Gardens, and we hear not only the ceremonial sounds of the daily torch lighting ceremony, but organist Ernie Shreeves’ composition “Tiki Gardens Polynesian Fantasy,” and Princess Carloa’s rendition of “Hawaiian Wedding Song.” Frank Byars also introduces “the mating call of the proud peacock” (approximately 50 of the large, loud birds were free to roam the grounds), the wild parakeets in the bell tower, a barking wooly monkey named Chester, the talking mynah birds (“Frank and Jo”), the cooing of doves and the lapping of waves. This one-of-a-kind private pressing was only sold in the Tiki Gardens Gift Shop. The attraction closed in 1988.
