Exterminator – Total Extermination (1987) Exterminator was an extreme underground metal band from Brazil, active during the 1980s. Their lone full-length album, Total Extermination, released in 1987, is a raw, chaotic, and blistering piece of early black/death/thrash metal history, often cited as one of the most primitive and violent metal albums ever recorded.
Album Overview Total Extermination embodies the bestial, ultra-primitive style that became a hallmark of the Brazilian extreme metal underground in the late '80s. Influenced by Sarcofago, Vulcano, and Hellhammer, Exterminator took the sound to its most extreme limits, characterized by sloppy yet furious drumming, heavily distorted guitars, guttural vocals, and lo-fi production.
Lyrically, the album leans heavily into themes of death, Satanism, and destruction, with track titles like The End, Nightmare, and Speed Metal reinforcing its nihilistic and blasphemous aesthetic. The sheer recklessness and aggressive energy of the album have given it a cult following among black and death metal purists who appreciate the raw, uncompromising sound of early South American extreme metal.
