Fairfield Parlour : From Home To Home 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press Vertigo 1970
This is another classic Vertigo first pressing I am selling that plays with sensational audio throughout, nothing grades lower than Near Mint minus! If you are a collector of high end Kaleidoscope / Fairfield Parlour albums then you will be very impressed with the sonic quality on offer here. There are no clicks or pops, barely any static and only a handful of light ticks the clarity is superb across every track. There are of course many quiet sections and yet they all play so clearly and the more powerful sections have no distortion on the top end. The vinyl is visually stunning and has clearly not been played very much. A superb album with superb sound!
The textured gatefold is in lovely condition with only minimal shelf wear and the original swirl inner is also in great order with very little wear. As this is a first pressing it has the 1Y1/2Y1 matrix and the track titles on the labels differ slightly on six of the tracks as compared to the cover - see discogs!

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a very impressive glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. All I can detect under a strong light are some faint hairlines that you always find of course. They are very faint and have no impact on the superb audio. The iconic Vertigo labels are very clean with no marking/writing and only minimal spindle wear.
Play grading
The very quiet intro on 'Aries' plays beautifully with barely any static and just one static tick. The opening two verses then play with sublime clarity and no intrusion on the audio, absolute zero 'background'! It continues in the same way and I cannot find fault at all. If the intro is Near Mint- then the rest is Mint as it just could not play any better.
The more up tempo 'In My Box' plays to the same high end standard again there are no ticks, clicks, pops and no underlying static. In essence it plays as well as it would have done during its first spin in 1970! The sonic quality is 'as new' and classic track grades as Mint from start to finish including the fade out.
The acoustic intro on 'By Your Bedside' plays perfectly and then progresses in the same precise way. Once again I am so impressed by the clarity on offer as there is nothing to detract from the audio. One mega light tick further in but totally non-intrusive of course. To the end it plays so clearly and Mint- is very much deserved. Bit harsh with the minus truth be told!
'Soldier Of The Flesh' again impresses on every level. From the quiet intro and through every verse and chorus the audio could not be enhanced in any way. The percussive mid section which gradually increases in volume is a fine example of the superb audio on offer here - there is no distortion on the top end at all. The remainder is equally as strong and the percussive fade out - perfect. I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint such is the quality.
'I Will Always Feel The Same' is comparable to that and plays with wonderful precision from the first note to the last. Yet another Mint track.
'Free...' ends S1 with faultless audio once more. There is no 'muddiness' to the sound despite being the final track on the side and the sonic quality remains unaffected despite the passage of time. Great power and depth here this is Mint - an incredible version and again no 'background' on the fade out.

The 'choral' opening on the classic 'Emily' is STUNNING! So quiet and yet the playback has no 'background' whatsoever. The first verse has two very minor ticks and it then plays with superb audio from that point on. Once again the sonic quality is immense! The higher octane 'vocal' sections and the quieter sections all play with sublime quality and again I can't believe what I am listening to! This truly is audio of the highest calibre and Mint- is well deserved.
'Chalk On The Wall' is 'as new' - running at just over one minute it has no 'background' so you know the grade :-)
The acoustic intro on 'The Glorious House Of Arthur' has one static tick and then plays with outstanding quality for the remainder. There are a couple of very light ticks during the instrumental section near the end but so quiet and not intrusive in any way. I will say Near Mint but yes the vast majority is even better than that.
If further proof was needed 'Monkey' also plays with infinite precision with no sign of any interference. Clarity and depth both 10/10 so Mint is the only grade I can give.
'Sunny Side Circus' is nigh on perfect with just one barely audible tick half way through. As I often say I always mention any 'background' however minor and believe me this tick is very minor! I could be forgiven for grading this as Mint but Mint- is 100% justified.
The quiet intro on 'Drummer Boy Of Shiloh' is flawless and the opening vocal plays so clearly with just one barely audible tick. It continues to play with great clarity although there is just a minor hint of mega light static in a handful of places. This is so quiet and does not intrude on the overall 'listen' - I am just being 'complete' with my grading once more. The quiet end vocal has just one very light tick and overall Near Mint- is fair. A very impressive ending to this classic album.
In summary this very collectable album plays with superb quality on both sides with no clicks or pops and obviously no jumps/sticks. The clarity, definition and warmth of the music is so impressive and there is no 'sound' that you would deem intrusive. When I have graded a track as Near Mint or Near Mint- any 'background' is so minimal, so quiet and does not impact on the audio in my opinion. When you consider the visual quality of the vinyl it is not surprising it plays so clearly and any Kaleidoscope / Fairfield Parlour collector would be hugely impressed by the sonic quality on offer here, it is a stunning album.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Swirl Inner
The textured cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear. The edges have barely rubbing and the wide spine is very clean with just a little wear on the corners, a touch more on the bottom one. The right hand corners have only minimal rubbing and the opening edge is super clean with no obvious handling wear at all. The front cover is in fantastic condition with only a couple of tiny 'specks' and a handful of minor rubs on the right hand edge. The back cover is similarly in great shape with only faint ringwear and a couple of small corner rubs. The inside of the gatefold is extremely clean with only a couple of specks, 4/5 tiny faint marks near the left edge and for once there is hardly any fading/spotting around the edges. A fine example overall.
The original poly-lined swirl inner is in excellent condition with very little marking and only minimal creasing. There are no side splits or tears either. It has the date code 0470 printed in one corner.
Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
