Beggars Banquet release a remastered version of The Fall's half-studio/half-live album, Seminal Live. When it was first released in 1989, it was the end of the Mancunian post punk icons' five-year deal with the Beggars Banquet label, the end of the first Brix Smith period and the eve of their lucrative signing to Fontana. There's some fascinating cuts on here demonstrating the versatility of Mark E Smith's music taste. On the studio side, there's 'Mollusc In Tyrol', a home recording of Mark E. Smith singing over the early-80s synth banger 'Donkeys Bearing Cups' by Craig Leon. The cover of country legend Lonnie Irving's 'Pinball Machine' suits Mark E Smith's vocal timbre beautifully and it featuring a terrific banjo workout from bassist Steve Hanley. Meanwhile, on the live side, set amongst some of the very best original Fall songs is a cover of The Kinks' 'Victoria' that was originally recorded for their The Frenz Experiment album. The live version offers much more punch.
