Alright folks, here's a real classic. My father-in-law passed away in 1997. Since his passing going on fifteen years ago, his old vinyl has just sat in my mother-in-laws storage cabinet in her living room. She long ago phased out her record player, and recently decided that it was time to get rid of the vinyl as well. While there was a lot of cool stuff in there, 99% of it was pretty common stuff. Going through it though I was stunned to find this gem! We are in southeast Missouri, so it's not THAT shocking that he might have had this, but still it was a shock to find in his collection a piece that was THIS rare and THIS sought after. I'm more of an 80's rock guy myself, so I'm going to pass this on to someone who really wants it and would appreciate it.
Here are the details. Farm was a six piece Southern Illinois band that existed pretty much just during the 1971 year. They were a bunch of young guys who LOVED bands like Canned Heat, the Allman Brothers and Santana. They got together, wrote some songs, and recorded this five-song vinyl-only EP. Only a few hundred were pressed, and when the band broke up soon thereafter, this piece slipped into the category of lost brilliance. In time, it has become one of the most sought after southern rock indie bands in history, and once you hear it, you'll get it!
I am NOT a professional vinyl grader. I do collect music though, and vinyl, so I would give the following gradings:
Cover: I would give it a VG+. Surprisingly there is almost no ringwear on the front, and only a little more on the back cover. While there are a couple of minor nicks along the spine, it is intact with no splitting at all. The cover is in fantastic condition for a record of 40 years old.
Vinyl: I would give the vinyl a VG. I listened to the vinyl one time through (which I didn't really want to do) after my mother-in-law said that it had been "well played years ago." That worried me. I was glad though when I saw that visually the vinyl shows wear and has a bit of surface noise, but the dynamics of the vinyl are outstanding, and it played through beginning to end with no skips and sounding like a wonderful old piece of history. Again, considering its age, this sounds wonderful. I will require insurance be purchased for this vinyl.
