Description
FATS DOMINO
GUEST STAR
This is the Treasury Department’s GUEST STAR program, where each week they would have a different recording star in the studio playing some of their current songs for 15 minutes. It was typically a show pitched to adults, so the singers that were usually in were people like Tony Martin, Hildegarde, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Perry Como and perhaps somebody really out there like Pat Boone. Rather sedate stuff, yeah?
This show from October 20, 1957 features Fats Domino. It was the first time the show got anywhere near younger musical tastes. This is program #552 Among the songs you’ll hear include:
Ain’t That A Shame
Valley of Tears
Rooster Song
Bo Weevil
When My Dream Boat Comes Home
The Guest Star program only hit the younger set once in 1958 (with Ricky Nelson), and twice in 1959 (The Eligibles and The Four Preps). They weren’t exactly a hip show.
On the other side is program #551 with the Lennon Sisters.
