FATS NAVARRO - THE FABULOUS FATS NAVARRO VOL. 1 – BLUE NOTE BLP 1531 – 47 WEST 63RD STREET – NM - MONO
This LP contains two sessions of Tadd Dameron Sextet. Side 1 was recorded on September 26, 1847 featuring Fats Navarro on trumpet, Ernie Henry on alto, Charlie Rouse on tenor, Tadd Dameron on piano and arranger, Nelson Boyd on bass and Shadow Wilson on drums. SIDE 1: OUR DELIGHT (ALT); OUR DELIGHT; THE SQUIRREL (ALT); THE SQUIRREL; THE CHASE (ALT); THE CHASE. And on Side 2 DAMERONIA (ALT) and DAMERONIA. The next session was on August 8, 1949 featuring “Bud Powell’s Modernists” with Fats Navarro on trumpet, Sonny Rollins on tenor, Bud Powell on piano, Tommy Potter on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. SIDE 2: WAIL; BOUNBCING WITH BUD; DOUBLE TALK and the two previous recordings of DAMERONIA. The address on the LP is 47 West 63rd and the cover is 43 West 61st St., New York 23. This is a Mono recording.
I have rated this LP as NM (Near Mint) due to the following reasons. This LP just misses a M- rating. The vinyl on both sides is clean, but there are a couple of very light marks on Side 2, which keeps it from being rated as M-. There are no signs of wear around the spindle hole on either side. The cover is in near mint condition with no sign of wear. I tend to rate low and it has to be perfect to get a M- rating by me. Someone else might give this a M- rating.
