Victor 740 (s/s 10” 78 rpm acoustic record) Recorded Philadelphia, April 9, 1902, pre-matrix

First “dog” label.  With “Patented” under the spindle hole.

 

Pre-matrix.  Recorded when a single metal part, when worn out, meant the take had to be retired. 

 

V   Continual noise.  One particularly noisy scratch of about 6 turns.  Plays through and all words clear.    

 

The text is about a risqué theatrical presentation.
