FOR AUCTION: FELA KUTI "ROFOROFO FIGHT" EDITIONS MAKOSSA 23.07
Released in 1972, Roforofo Fight is one of Fela Kuti's finest recordings, and one of his least written about. This set sticks close to Kuti's African roots -- in each cut, there are hints of highlife in the heated interplay between guitars and percussion, but the horn charts reach beyond, toward something far funkier and more improvisational. Also prevalent, particularly in the album’s opening title track, is a post-Coltrane jazz influence that sidles up nicely with the one imparted by James Brown’s music that Kuti encountered firsthand in Los Angeles three years earlier. Check the tenor saxophone solo and the near moaning wordless vocal improvisations in the middle of the cut. His trademark backing chorus enters later, along with Wurlitzer organ and Fender Rhodes, and turns the heat up to the boiling point, making this one mad dancefloor workout. It doesn’t let up for its entire 14 minutes. A lo-fi trumpet solo commences “Go Slow.” That said, a snaky Rhodes and organ usher in a hypnotic groove, with guitar lines and basslines trading places at various times in the arrangement. The horn chart is pure hardcore Afro-beat, and the tenor and trumpet solos are pure wide-open blowing post-modal jazz. This is one of the most essential Fela purchases for beginners or seasoned listeners. All killer, no filler. -- All Music Guide

RECORD GRADING POLICY
MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale
EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play
VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially affect play
VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.
VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.
VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.
Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like
Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play
Poor = the sky’s the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest

PLEASE NOTE: We have set our shipping prices to cover costs on an average basis. You may be charged slightly more - or less - than the actual cost of postage; Priority postage varies according to destination, records and jackets vary in weight, all of which makes it impossible to set an exact "correct" price for all customers, especially internationally. We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).
