This listing is for the original 1979 Nigerian pressing of Unknown Soldier, the politically charged Afrobeat album by Nigerian bandleader, composer, and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, released by Skylark Records (SKLP 003). One of Fela's most historically significant recordings, Unknown Soldier was his response to the 1977 military assault on the Kalakuta Republic, and its title refers to the official inquiry's conclusion that an unidentified or "unknown" soldier was responsible for the destruction of the compound.
The album is essentially one monumental Afrobeat composition spread across both sides of the LP. Side A presents "Unknown Soldier" as an extended instrumental performance, while Side B continues with the vocal section.The recording features the Africa '70 ensemble, including legendary drummer Tony Allen, along with Lekan Animashaun on baritone saxophone, Oye Shobowale on trumpet, an extensive guitar and percussion section, and Fela on vocals, tenor and alto saxophone, and electric piano
This original Nigerian edition was issued in a gatefold jacket, preceding later international editions, including a 1982 U.S. pressing. This release is housed in its original gatefold jacket, and has been play tested and ultrasonically cleaned.

NEAR MINT (NM or M-)
Vinyl looks freshly opened with full gloss and no visible marks, spindle wear, or surface noise. Sleeve is crisp and clean with no creases, seam splits, or ring wear.
Very Good Plus (VG+)
Vinyl shows light signs of use, possibly a few minor scuffs or hairlines that do not affect play. Sleeve may show slight wear, including light edge wear, a small crease, or minimal ring wear.
Very Good (VG)
Vinyl has visible surface wear and light scratches, with occasional surface noise but no skips. Sleeve shows moderate wear such as ring wear, seam splits, writing, or creasing.
Good (G), Good Plus (G+), or Very Good Minus (VG-)
Vinyl plays through without skipping but has varying degrees of heavy wear, significant surface noise, and visible damage or label defects. Sleeve is heavily worn, with large seam splits, major ring wear, heavy writing, and/or tape/sticker damage.
