Reviews:
* I heard Ginger Baker and Fela Ransome-Kuti for the first time at a Fraternity Party, I was 18 years old and had been experiencing lot's of different music. When I heard the song on this album, I just couldn't stop dancing! That was in 1970, now it's 2003 and I'm 53 years old and still can't stop dancing when I play it. These two guys were a match made in heaven. Each track had that heavy beat and lot's of tight horns in the background. I could just see myself in the middle of the crowd while they played. There is something magical about the sound of the drums and the echo of Fela's voice that hypnotized and mezmerized me until the whole album had played. Today I still feel that jolt when I play it. Now that's music that has and will forever stand the test of time. If this is the first time you have had the chance to listen to this album, make sure you have your dance partner with you. It's impossible to listen to all that funk and sit still.
* Ginger Baker's drumming integrates PERECTLY with the band. You would swear they've been playing together for decades. And he really does manage to display immense virtuosity (on Track 2), but in service to the groove and only in ways that make the music better.
Enough about him though, this is Fela's record. Fela and his band are in top form here. The best rhythms this side of James Brown. The msuic has a lot of drive, and a lot of heart.
