If At First. . . (RPC ‘7?) I am at a loss to even begin to consider this one…on the famed custom press label that had bands like Rubber Memory, Fabulous Daturas, Fenner, Leland etc. one of those labels where multitudes of hi-school marching bands also were issued. So. This is a mind blowing female vocal garage folk sound that is so higher key in its gorgeous innocence I’m feeling like I’m falling in love. . . and its only a record, not a girl! Weird mix, surreal vocal blends on versions of “Morning After,” “Soldier Boy, ” “El Condor Pasa,” “500 Miles,” “A Thousand Miles Away,” all dreamy way obscure melodic pop twilight-zone soft rock. I just played it again with a friend here & he pointed out that the reason the vocals are mixed so high that they’re literally playing the original version/records of the songs in the background and singing over them!! Genius!! Also this LP has a fab b&w paste on cover with a belly-button on front & groovy pics of them on the back. . . now listening more to this I can’t identify all the stolen versions used as backup. The vocal femme blend here is right out of the twilight zone, takes on a spookiness that is delicious. A unique strange one, for fans of music gone beautifully wrong.
