Description

I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A LARGE COLLECTION OF 1950s AND EARLY 1960s ROCK-N-ROLL AND DOO-WOP LPs, INCLUDING QUITE A FEW RARE AND COLLECTABLE ORIGINAL PRESS ITEMS. I WILL BE OFFERING SOME OF THESE OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO - IF YOU COLLECT ORIGINAL PRESS 1950s AND EARLY 1960s ROCK-N-ROLL AND DOO-WOP LPs, KEEP WATCHING MY AUCTIONS!! Is it Rudy West's thumb....Or is it a different part of his body? Be the winning bidder and you can decide!! This is an original 1957 U.S. pressing of the LP titled 'The Five Keys On Stage', FEATURING THE INFAMOUS PHALLIC 'FINGER' COVER!! It is a Capitol Records LP, catalog number T828, turquoise labels. As the story goes, the first pressings of this great doo-wop LP show a photo of The Five Keys with lead singer Rudy West at the left side of the photo - What is apparently his right thumb is barely visible on the far side of his body, but in a very unfortunate location that gives the appearance of a private body part hanging out! Later pressings of this LP bear an air-brushed version of this photo with the offending member eliminated from the picture, but we have the controversial original on offer here! The record is also a very nice slab of first-rate classy doo-wop from one of the best groups in the business - Tracks: Just For A Thrill, Who Do You Know In Heaven, Maybe You'll Be There, Tiger Lily, C'est La Vie, Dream, Let There Be You, All I Need Is You, The Gypsy, From The Bottom Of My Heart, To Each His Own, Boom-Boom. Condition of cover is conservatively a low VG+ mainly due to an 8" split in the middle of the top edge which has been very neatly repaired by taping from the inside, and is only apparent upon close scrutiny. There is also a small 1" split near the left side of the bottom edge. Only other flaws would be a moderate amount of contact wear and age discoloration on the white areas of the back cover, and a little general wear along the edges and on the corners, and the cover looks a lot better than its technical grade would indicate. Condition of record is also conservatively a mid VG+ with a small to moderate amount of light surface marks, none of which can be felt or affect play. Record plays through nicely with a very little bit of scattered light crackly surface noise. A legendary item that makes a great conversation piece and a choice addition to any doo-wop or early rock-n-roll record collection! Please e-mail me with any questions. Winning bidder pays $3.75 insured media mail postage or actual insured priority mail postage within the U.S. E-mail me for shipping charges outside the U.S. Personal checks must clear. I now accept payment via PayPal. WINNING BIDDER PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH - IT PROBABLY WILL NOT GET HERE! I will give an immediate refund (less shipping) upon return of the LP if winning bidder is dissatisfied for any reason. Good luck!
