Double LP with Gatefold Sleeve on Warner Bros/PIAS. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRESSING IN ITS ORIGINAL UNOPENED SHRINKWRAP!!!!
The album was #3 on Pitchfork's Top 200 for the 1990s; 03: The Flaming Lips The Soft Bulletin [Warner Bros; 1999] As an aging, sarcastic man, The Flaming Lips remain my favorite contemporary group because they demolish two short-sighted contemporary rock 'n' roll notions: you have to be young and serious. Wayne's salt-and-pepper beard, pea coat and bullhorn raised the bar for any musician pushing forty. Another debatable myth dispelled by The Soft Bulletin is that heroin destroys. Steven Drozd's addiction to the horse was hard and heavy right through the production of Yoshimi , and his addition to the band clearly took them to their current creative level. Aside from Keith Richards, has anyone produced such godlike music while mired in the junk, that it almost seems like an endorsement for the drug?
Remarkably, the band's music maintains a general air of feel-goodness while their lyrics concern sobering subjects as bleeding, bites, and mortality. Death seeps from within every sweeping disco-ball light bath of a song, deep down to the drummer's gums. A year after The Soft Bulletin 's release a spider nailed my calf, corroding the skin. When detailing the infection I was constantly comforted by a poorly (perfectly?) sung refrain of, "When you got that spider bite on your leg!" That's cultural impact. The Flaming Lips: the official soundtrack of near-fatal insect bites. --Brent DiCrescenzo
Record Grading
I grade pretty conservatively overall. Very few played records will grade as mint. If you feel something was graded in error, please contact me to work it out.
- SS Still Sealed - Never opened or played!
- M Mint - Opened but probably unplayed.
- M- Mint Minus - An absolutely pristine disc and cover, very slight variation from M.
- VG+ Very Good Plus - A very clean copy, may have light surface marks but should play very close to mint.
- VG Very Good - A very good used record. Mild cover wear and possible slight surface noise. Very few old records will grade higher than this.
- VG- Very Good Minus - Clearly used, may have noticeable surface noise but no skips unless noted. Cover may have significant wear or other issues which are always listed.
- G+ Good Plus. Fair condition, no skips but pretty trashed. I don't sell in this condition unless unusually rare..
Shipping Policies
I generally will ship worldwide. Buyers from Italy need to contact first to discuss shipping methods. All records are shipped in cardboard mailers with additional padding. Please contact me beforehand if you desire something special
