Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 110 grams. Quite light, but totally pure vinyl (of the highest quality).

Country of Manufacture: This very specialised pressing in Japan. The packaging is American.

Rarity: The MFSL pressings are very limited and scarce, especially outside the United States. Strictly limited, many of the classic titles sold out immediately, especially the ones like this – this audiophile pressing will rarely be seen or offered outside the United States.

Brief Artist & Album Info: A slow burner in terms of units sold, this did not initially sell well when first issued in 1975. Fleetwood Mac had not been selling albums in great numbers for some time. But after extensive touring to promote it, it really took off, and a new ‘supergroup’ were born. This album introduced the world to Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, then a husband and wife guitarist and vocalists – their self-titled album issued prior to them joining Fleetwood Mac was a commercial disaster – but a lovely set in its own right. Indeed the track ‘Crystal’ was originally included on that album and written in 1973. A magnificent album and regarded as a classic of its type. I can remember to this day when I first heard it – at Cambridge Corn Exchange when it was playing over the PA prior to a Curved Air gig – I bought it the next day. Superbly produced, this Mobile Fidelity pressing is the ultimate way to hear it. Audiophile collectors will be more than aware of Mobile Fidelity, their pressings are largely second-to-none. Never mass-produced, only limited runs and pressed on the purest vinyl and mastered at half speed. The detail, dynamics and noise-free sound is what discerning collectors crave, and this barely played copy does this famous work ultimate justice. Indeed, it is quite likely this copy had barely been played prior to my mandatory sound-check. Not putting too fine a point on it – this record leads you directly into the recording studio. Mobile Fidelity master their recordings from the original masters, there is no knob twiddling or changing the original sound. So you get the exact sound of the original, but with even extra fine details and wider dynamic range. Such records and recordings are why music lovers pay out vast sums on high-end equipment which makes my own system (listed further down) seem like peanuts. This copy complete with the guarantee sheet – yes, Mobile Fidelity guaranteed all their records against faults. If some other companies did that, there would have been more returns than sold. This legendary pressing in practically as-made condition is seldom seen or offered in the UK.

Cover Grade and Format: NEAR EXCELLENT: arguably better. An unlaminated single format with matt surfaces and a gentle hint of texturing. Printed and made in the U.S. Includes the super-soft anti-static inner sleeve, also the yellow ‘defect’ sheet. Ask yourself, how many other record manufacturers would even remotely consider such a guarantee of workmanship? This also had two plain card insert sheets, not seen these inside a MF album before, but protective sheets are mentioned on other past advertisements for this, so I presume they are correct. Also found inside is the lyric insert – this made in England, possibly included by the one previous owner? Nice to have it for sure anyway.

Cover Front: The only issue on this front of note is a gentle price sticker outline and surface pull, not a tear as such, this near the top right corner area, reasonably small, but visible. Little else to really fault.

Cover Back: The back is little short of as-made, nothing of note to fault.

Top & Bottom Edges: All straight with any light rubbing showing little on quite pale surfaces. No splits or repairs.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Again, practically as-made, crisp and sharp, these made with thicker card than European covers. No burring and guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Solid, robust and straight, these American covers had natural crinkle to the surface, it simply the way they were made at this time. Some text has rubbed, but much is still solidly present and most still legible apart from the catalogue number at the top. Again no splits or thinning.

Corners: Minimal tip rubbing, again any registers little due to the pale colour, excellent shape retained with no knocks or dinks.

Cover Summary: To be clear: American covers are far more fragile than UK equivalents, and this is now into its late thirties. This heavyweight, thick card sleeve has the lightish sticker mark and a little spine text erosion, but little else, so in context it has fared well, it should please many collectors, but not the purists who only want perfection.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): this is a super-soft anti-static inner with a little natural crinkle. No splits and very fresh, practically as-made.

The Lyric Insert: EXCELLENT(++): a full-size sheet printed on both sides, this printed in England. I am not sure if this part of the set, but possibly so. Whatever, a nice addition and this is practically as-made again.

The Yellow Guarantee Certificate: MINT: nothing whatsoever to fault, unused or written on.

The Key High Fidelity Component Sheet: PRACTICALLY MINT: a microscopic corner tip crease only that is going beyond critical. Then pristine as made.

The two card sheets: MINT: two bare protective card sheets which I think were originally included.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(–): and even under angled light, hardly any blemishes or surface traces at all – one or two hairlines only. Maybe played once prior to my purchase, this is a fantastic clean record that could almost pass for new. A superb visual copy that is ultra clean with excellent shine and fairly solidly pressed. The vinyl purity of the highest quality, this record is barely even run-in in vinyl terms and sounds amazing.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This magnificent audiophile pressed record plays up to it’s high visual grading (and beyond) with nothing to fault – this is pure sound perfection. Along with the Nimbus ‘Supercut’ records and a few others, these records set the benchmark in audio excellence. Some who know me think I am fussy – good – I take it as a compliment. After hearing pressings like this, it puts many others to shame, that’s a fact. This offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is astonishing (and I mean ASTONISHING!) with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Pure, natural, dynamic analogue sound that will never be beaten. Mobile Fidelity are famed for their audio excellence and the company have excelled again. I noticed no surface sound whatsoever, no blemishes, no pops or clicks, just pure clean sound from start to finish. These specialist pressings deserve their proud reputation, that is why they are so sort-after. This made my LP12 source system excel, to say I enjoyed this record would be something of any understatement. Both channels are clean and sharp, focused and precise with ultimate fine detail – also that lovely extended bass, this has all the warmth and realism of a live performance. Clearly carefully handled and little used, I doubt if this record has seen daylight for decades. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this new look and sound Fleetwood Mac classic. Effortless easy tracking with no issues at all*. This quality album and genuine classic that paved the way for their masterpiece ‘Rumours’, and particular pressing, will prove near impossible to find better and is strongly and unreservedly recommended. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
