Brief Info: One of the most beautiful and haunting singles ever issued, both tracks recorded in America. Supremely expressive vocals and the most wonderful guitar hook, this song has it all. Written by Peter Green as his drug addiction was spiraling out-of-control – he left the band a short time after. This peaked at No 10 in the UK charts and remains as one of the bands greatest ever recordings. Doubts still remain about the titles meaning – drugs or money? This copy on offer is stunning and I mean that in the true sense of the word. The picture sleeve is worth the price alone and includes one of the best vintage Fleetwood Mac band pictures ever issued. In practically pristine conditions too, try to find this better. The record looks barely even played with little-short of Mint playing surfaces. The A-side plays with pristine sound, the instrumental B-side has a couple of very brief pressing sounds only and given the age and format, this record plays exceptionally well. I do not offer singles often, but when I do, I like to offer the best around and they don’t get much better than this. The cover is connoisseur standard and what a sublime album cover it would have made. The record is looks and sounds as it would have done back in 1970.

This Cover’s Potential for Wear: Very High.

Cover Grade and Format: As close to full Mint as any single cover could be, especially given the fragility and age. Undergraded Mint(-) and one of the most beautiful original band pictures you will ever wish to see. A single unlaminated cover with a rear recessed top opening. Two rear external flipbacks, unlined. No printers credits at all.

Cover Front: Little short of pristine with the most beautiful band picture in full glorious colour. Clean, fresh with barely a crease or blemish at all. One tiny surface mark is near invisible. The lack of penetrating saw-teeth gripper marks from the record label rim area is a huge bonus. With angled viewing, a circle trace can just be seen but with normal viewing, nothing. No rubbing or ink removal at all, this is magnificent.

Cover Back: The back is practically perfect as well. Both flipbacks solid, ultra clean and superbly shaped and firmly adhered. The top entrance recess is also immaculate, the very top of the top has a tiny burr trace but this is being somewhat critical.

Bottom Edge: Practically unworn and all edges unsplit with NO repairs.

Right & Left Edges: Both as made.

Corners: All very neat and sharp with barely any traces of wear or creasing.

Cover Summary: A wonderful cover, how many will survive quite like this, well few I would imagine. This beautiful item should please most discerning collectors.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Loathe to grade this less than Mint, something I would normally deem inceivable for a vintage single, but these playing surfaces are truly immaculate. A superb visual copy that is super clean, shiny, intense black and has that just-pressed look with barely a noteworthy mark or blemish at all. A copy probably played once or twice only. Visually a super record that should please practically all collectors.

I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: The A-side plays up to its high visual grading with nothing to fault. The B-side has a couple of ultra brief pressing sounds only. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. No pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing on the main song. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. One of the greatest singles of the decade and ever in my humble opinion. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
