WAYGOOD ELLIS: I Like What I'm Trying To Do / Hey Lover
Ultra rare mono acetate 45 of great UK blue-eyed soul stormer featuring The Fleur De Lys!
Atlantic 584084
(actually issued as Polydor 56729, 1967)
This is a real find! This is a genuine 60's acetate of this Mod favourite; the A-side of which is a great soulful horn-driven dancer with a poppy Stax/Atlantic feel. The B-side is a slower, more romantic string laden ballad. Both sides, however feature freakbeat heroes The Fleur De Lys as the backing band. The interesting thing about this acetate is that according to the label information, it seemed originally destined for release on Atlantic records (see photo), yet actually came out on Polydor. With a low starting price and no reserve, this is one auction 60's collectors cannot afford to miss!
Condition:
- Disc: Very Good. The acetate has been played a few times, but it doesn't sound worn out. The sound is still punchy and clear - a fantastic mono mix makes certain of that - there is very little surface noise, and it plays through both sides without jumping. The labels are custom I.B.C. studio labels with record company, artist and title information typed onto them. The initials MG have been written on both labels.
- Sleeve: Very Good. The record comes in a plain white die-cut sleeve which has yellowed over time.
Good Luck!!
feel free to email any questions you may have, but please read the rest of the listing first!
Gradings:
- Mint: Unplayed and unmarked - a grading used very sparingly.
- Near Mint: Disc and sleeve in practically new condition, probably been played once or twice.
- Excellent: Disc and sleeve have light superficial wear only, no surface noise at all - a stunning copy!
- Very Good+: Minimal wear, a nice clean copy but shows sign of usage although it's been handled with great care.
- Very Good: As it says, it is still a very good copy - although the vinyl has light marks and the sleeve may be a little more worn, it still plays without intrusive surface noise or jumping.
- Good: a good copy... not ruined; although surface noise/pop/crackle or marking may be more noticeable, it is definitely still a playable record and not something that looks like a chicken has been skating on it.
