SCORING HUGELY with their chart busting singles 'Hocus Pocus' and 'Sylvia' Dutch rockers Focus couldn't have been more at the center of international attention during the early seventies. 'In And Out Of...' was, of course, their debut album following the bands formation out of the ashes of respected progressive rockers Brainbox. Thankfully for all concerned it wasn't a let down and even spawned a hit single in continental Europe with the all instrumental Jethro Tull-like track 'House Of The King' - a song brought to wider recognition as the theme tune for popular UK TV series Saxondale starring Steve Coogan, himself a closet prog head.
This album establishes the bands enormous talent by serving up a brace of stirring hard rock and semi intellectualised prog. Thijs Van Leer's cool flute added a layer of melody that, under any other circumstances, the instrumental tracks might otherwise have lost. Of course, the man of the match is very much guitarist Jan Akkerman who's amazing style is about as futuristic as any other leading six stringer frm the era and here I'm thinking of contemporaries such as Jeff Beck, Ollie Halsall and Alan Holdsworth. His soloing in 'Sugar Island' needs to be heard to be believed.
A truly fantastic and hugely satisfying work - and a superb copy.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Cover: Again, no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated gatefold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is stiff and straight. Grades as shop fresh MINT!
