Description
A particularly nice set of 11 x lps from Folkways Records in the U. S. A. charting the early history of jazz music.
Volume 1 covers The South and includes Leadbelly, Sonny Terry and Bessie Tucker amongst the artists.
Volume 2 is The Blues and artists include Blind Willie Nelson, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Ma Rainey.
Volume 3 covers New Orleans with Dallas Jug Band and Jelly Roll Morton amongst the artists.
Volume 4 is Jazz Singers including Louis Armstrong, Baby Cox and Cab Calloway.
Volumes 5 and 6 cover Chicago with Johnny Dodds and King Oliver's Jazz Band included.
Volume 7 cover New York 1922-34 and includes The Cotton Pickers, Miff Mole and His Little Molers and The Kentucky Grasshoppers.
Volume 8 is Big Bands including Fletcher Henderson and His Orchestra and The Little Chocolate Dandies.
Volume 9 covers Piano with artists including Earl Hines and Fats Waller.
Volume 10 is Boogie Woogie and artists include Cripple Clarence Lofton and Count Basie's Kansas City Seven.
Volume 11 is Addenda and includes Ory's Sunshine Orchestra and Scott Joplin.
Each lp includes cover notes (a couple have a little pencil annotation and a red pen in a place). The final volume, Addenda has a full list of artists, tracks and titles for the whole set.
The records are all in hardly played, excellent condition, each with a lovely visual shine.
The covers are thick cardboard and just have a little wear on a few of the spines.
It's a really nice set.
