Records graded to Record Collector Price Guide standard, here’s a brief explanation:
SS Still Sealed - in factory-fresh condition
M Mint – Not sealed but still brand new and unplayed, immaculate covers
NM Near Mint - a near perfect record, no damage, only light plays / no faults to the sleeve
EX Excellent – No major faults, deterioration in sound etc. only superficial signs of use that don’t affect play / A few light and minor creases or scuffs to the sleeve but basically clean and fine with no signs of abuse at all. Anything EX will satisfy all but the most demanding collector
VG Very Good – Well cared for records with a little light evidence of use in the spindle area etc., a few light paper scuffs and marks but no serious damage or loss in sound / Covers may have a few creases or light scuffs, perhaps a sticker or small light tears but will basically be intact and look fine
G Good - A used, reasonable copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of quite noticeable surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, maybe even the odd scratch but still it will be a reasonable record if you’re not fussy / Sleeves may be unstuck and have more prominent creases or splits but will just about hold it together as a collectable cover
F Fair - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noiseThis grade normally means don’t buy unless you’re a total completist who just wants to say they own the record rather than play it.
