François Jeanneau "Such a Weird Planet" LP issued by Palm / Productions Artistiques Litteraires et Musicales (PALM 22) in France, 1975. ****** Rec:ex / Cov:m- ****** One of the rarest LPs on the French PALM label. Jeanneau joined by Michel Grailler, J.F Jenny-Clarke and Bernard Lubat. A great session of cosmic jazz including electronics and concrete effects. In 1960 François Jeanneau joins the George Arvanitas quintet. He then plays with Bernard Vitet, Michel Portal, Francois Tusques, Jacques Thollot, Martial Solal, René Urtreger, Eddie Louiss. He is one of the pioneers of the Free Improvisation. He’s one of the member of Triangle, a band formed in 1969. The amazing companion piece to the Jacques Thollot "Watch Devil Go" LP (recorded in the same year for the same label with many of the same personnel), "Une Bien Curieuse Planete" mates the sax, flute and synth of Jeanneau and the bass work of J.F. Jenny-Clark (both featured on Thollot "Watch Devil Go") to Magma keyboardist Michel Grailler's piano and synth, with Bernard Lubat taking Thollot's place at the kit for a series of highly peculiar pieces. Alternating between gorgeously woozy synth dominated library music-like curios, free jazz blowouts and straighter stretches of jazziness, the album split about evenly between these poles and front-loaded with a lengthy piece thats one the album's straightest.
