FRANK ZAPPA

“APOSTROPHE (‘)”

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Warner Bros. – Seven Arts Records (W7) very first STEREO press released by W7 Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1976 by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA”, M.R. (ASFONA Records), licensed from Discreet Records Inc., “a Warner Bros. Inc., U.S.A. Recording”, catalog number DS 2175, with hand etched matrix numbers DS-2175-A EB-C in Side A and DS-2175-B ED-C in Side B, with orange/black W7 Records labels. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides it’s written the exact day of pressing, “5-1-76” (January 5th of 1976). Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“APOSTROPHE (‘)” was originally released in USA in March 1974 and it seems we had to wait a long time to see this great album released here in Chile, because it was only released in 1976 here. In Chile this album was released as part of the ASFONA Records collection called “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO” (Deluxe Special Serie) an we got an UNIQUE flipback cover, made of 2 single pieces of thin cardboard with front cover pasted on the flips of back cover at top edge and back cover pasted on the flips of back cover at left and bottom edges. Front cover keeps the original artwork with all text, I mean album title, written in English only, with ASFONA Records logo at the top right corner. Back cover also keeps the same original design but in Chile all the text and the picture of Frank Zappa are blue tinted and the cardboard is white, not orange. And as you can see, the tracklist and all credits are also written in English, the only difference with original US issue is the WB Records logo and below that logo it’s written “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO”, in bottom left corner is the logo “EL DISCO IS CULTURA” (The Record Is Culture) and at the bottom edge is written “Editado Y Distribuido por “ASFONA” M.R. Santiago De Chile – Fono 83877”. It’s also interesting to see that in back cover the sides are identified as “Side One” and “Side Two” but in labels they are “A” and “B”. In labels, the album title, the tracklist and all the credits, including licenses, are written in English only, the only text written in Spanish is in the rim, with credits for ASFONA Records. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this classic rock album by Frank Zappa, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Frank Zappa!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from this side of the world!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in nice G+ or VG- condition, clean and complete, fully readable, but with severe wear in the edges and corners, more evident in corners at first sight, with many creases, some blemishes and notorious age browning in back cover, with ring marks and marks of humidity at the mouth edge, with also some rips, writings and a tape in front cover, with also 2/3 seam split at the bottom edge and 1/3 at the spine (not really a “normal” spine), and tape at top and bottom edges. The record is in nice VG or VG+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many scuffs, light hairlines and soft scratches of all sizes and in all directions, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great EX or EX+ condition, clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear and the name of some past owner, also in cover, written in both sides. The sound is in strong EX- or EX condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with soft constant crackles and some occasional light clicks here and there, more evident in the quiet parts of songs and in the silent parts between tracks, which of course don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record, sure not for Minty minds or audiophiles, who especially look for perfect covers, but sure a record with still a nice glossy look and with still a great sound quality after 41 years!!! WOW!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER, the UNIQUE BLUE BACK COVER and the date of pressing written in the deadwax!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.

IMPORTANT TO READ

We are not responsible for all the taxes, duties, fees you could have to pay in your country, but I always declare the records as gift.
