I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection this winter and pulling out some LPs that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 40 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors.
This week on EBay I am offering up this nice original First Pressing of Frank Zappa's 1979 album "Joe's Garage"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Frank Zappa’s 'Joe’s Garage' remains one of his best works. It's among the most accessible records from the Zappa's discography. 
Many Zappa fans consider this one of Zappa’s most important late ’70s works. This First Pressing was released in 1979 on Frank Zappa's own custom label. This is the Keel pressing, which some say sounds better than the other pressings.
It takes you through the crazy chaotic journey of Joe and Mary. This First Pressing has the whole story as a multi- page booklet attached inside the gatefold. The story is written as if it were a libretto, or scenes in a play, with a cast, a listing of characters, narration, lyrics, and fantastic zappa-esque artwork.
It's a highly creative, imaginative album, with brilliantly complex music chugging underneath it all. Plus it's a lot of fun.
This album, or what Frank would call a ‘project/object’, contains a brilliant mix of all the classic Zappa trademarks that his fans love: Musical virtuosity, great Guitar, social & pop parody, satire, compositional complexity, stylistic diversity, lewd, crude, scathing lyrics and a wicked sense of humor. 
Joe's Garage, is ambitious, brilliant, and peculiar. In short, Classic Zappa. It’s like no other album you will ever hear, but then again Frank Zappa is like no other artist you will ever hear. Frank really pulls out all the stops on this album. 
It is very guitar oriented album and features some of Frank's best, but short, solos. If you're a fan of Zappa's drummers, this album has Vinnie Colaiuta doing some amazing technically advanced drumming that is just fantastic. It has been ranked as one of the greatest drumming performances of all time.

"Joe's Garage" is a tongue-in-cheek, semi-political concept album.
Zappa himself described this album as a cautionary tale exposing the dangers and evils of rock & roll and the efforts of the Government trying to outlaw music.
Frank has always been an ardent supporter of free speech in art and his lyrics on this LP are both appealing and appalling. Not for everybody, but very Zappa.
The album starts out with the robotic, threatening voice of Zappa as "The Central Scrutinizer", who occasionally comments on the songs and acts as a sort of 'guide' thru the album.
The 'scrutinizer' tells us what can happen if we choose a career in music. He warns us that it will not be an easy life if we chose to go down that path.
Joe, the protagonist, decides to form a band anyhow. Joe gets caught up in Rock and Roll and eventually loses everything he has. 
The title track, “Joe’s Garage” describes Joe's first trip to his friends’ garage to jam with his buddies. They eventually get a record deal. The next thing you know we're into groupies, wet t-shirts, and venereal disease.
Joe has a girlfriend Mary, who starts out as a 'good girl', but becomes exposed to the 'evils' of Rock and Roll.
She's a good 'Catholic Girl' who moves from having sex with boys in the church basement to leaving Joe to go on the road and become a groupie for the fictitious rock band "Toad-O". She then becomes a “Crew Slut” for the touring rock group.
Mary eventually gets dumped and stranded in Miami, where she has to participate in a "Wet T-Shirt Nite" contest to make some money and get bus fare back home. When she gets home, her life has become wrecked by Rock and Roll.
Meanwhile, Joe, upset about losing Mary and hearing of her exploits, seeks consolation from a new girlfriend Lucille, a taco-stand waitress, who gives him VD, an ‘unpronounceable disease’ which leads to the best song on the album, the crude and unusual "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?" Joe realizes that "Lucille has Messed up my Mind."
And that's just the beginning.  Zappa went on to release the rest of the story in "Joe's Garage Acts II and II".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONDITION: I tried to show good hi-resolution photos of the cover, labels and vinyl in my pictures.
VINYL: The vinyl looks great. Clean and Bright. There are one or two very small marks keeping it from being excellent, but it looks terrific.
This is my original copy and I took great care of it. I tried to show some close-up pictures of the vinyl to show how good it looks. I'll call it VG+ to keep everyone happy, but you can see how nice it looks. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
LABELS: This is pressed on Zappa's custom label. The red labels are clean and bright. No marks or damage. The spindle holes are sharp and clean, suggesting minimal playing.
JACKET: The Gatefold Jacket is in nice condition. There is a little bit of wear on the jacket which is hard to see due to the black cover, but not bad. These all-black covers were notorious for showing wear. The corners are sharp, with minimal bumping. Spine is fine, no ring wear, no seam splits. The booklet is enclosed, well attached and very clean. No marks, names or stains. I'll call it VG+ but you can see from my pictures it's quite nice.
Overall, a very nice copy of this Frank Zappa First Pressing from 1979. I'm sure you'll love it.
