FRANK ZAPPA UNCLE MEAT

MISPRESSING RAREITY – TRA 197

Ist UK pressing (Sept 1969)

This is one of the rarist copies of this LP. This original UK version is  on Transatlantic Records  - a small independent label which normally produced and distributed folk music.

This first UK pressing of Uncle Meat came about when Bizarre/ Straight’s deal with Reprise Records to distribute this LP in the UK fell through. Reprise records normally used PYE records to manufacture  and distribute in the UK on its behalf – albeit it with a Reprise label.

PYE refused to distribute this LP in the UK (possibly because of the swearing) so a temporary deal was made for Transatlantic to release Uncle Meat Until a new UK distributer could be found. Transatlantic lacked the funds to promote Uncle Meat (nor could it afford to manufacture the booklet) so only a few copies of this first pressing were sold. This pressing was released in the UK in Sep 1969 – normal releases on the Reprise label did not follow until many months later.

There are significant differences between this and subsequent UK releases of Uncle Meat:

1.    Track 3 (Side 1) "Nine Types of Industrial Pollution" is on the sleeve but is called "400 Days of the Year" on the label;

2.    Instead of "Louie Louie (at the Royal Albert Hall in London)" it says "The Mothers Play Louie Louie at the Albert Hall in London"

3.    On the last "King Kong" it says "the Underwood Zappa Ramifications" [instead of just "the Underwood Ramifications"]

4.    Label does not acknowledge that "Louie Louie" is by Richard Berry!

5.    The cover has the Transatlantic logo on the front cover alongside the Bizarre logo and, of course, has Transatlantic labels rather than Reprise.

The cover and vinyl are both in very good to excellent condition for their age.
