FRANK ZAPPA & MOTHERS OF INVENTION
A: Why Don't You Do Me Right
B: Big Leg Emma
[VERVE, VV 58303 / VK 58303, NORWAY]

HOLY GRAIL TIME! Here you have the widely unknown to exist and undocumented IMPOSSIBLY RARE original Norway release of this 45 from 1967. I have only seen this offered for sale once before. Have a listen below! The a-side is a BANGING garage / psych / mod dancer.

This 45 was released with a similar picture sleeve in Sweden but the differences are that the swedish sleeve was a basic "fold-over" sleeve with the same artwork on both the front and the back, it also states the catalogue number as the correct "VK 58303" in the upper right corner on the front (the Norway sleeve has got a mis-print on the cat# as "VV 58303" at the same place). The norwegian sleeve which is up for grabs here is a "regular" sleeve with three seams and top opening, it has also got NO ARTWORK on the back of the sleeve, it is completely blank. Both the sleeve and the 45 are made in Norway (the 45 has got "710" machine-stamped into the run-out grooves on both sides, "710" is the country code for Norway).

About the condition:

THE SLEEVE has got lots of writing on the back, a 2cm bottom seam split, a tiny sticker removal mark in the lower right corner on the front and two tiny 0,5cm tears at top opening. I would grade it as a VG+

THE VINYL is extremely clean and plays superb. It has got some strange "hazy" looking streaks in the vinyl on the "Big Leg Emma" side, but they do NOT affect play. There is however another issue with the vinyl that is a bit hard to describe: there is a 6 cm (about 2,35 inches) circular crack that runs along the run-out groove closest to the label area. This is something that must've happened at the pressing plant, it's almost as if the inner groove was etched too "deep" and caused it to crack. The thing is though, the record plays PERFECT and I didn't initially notice the circular crack. It doesn't impact the playing area of the 45 at all. I've tried to take a photo of the affected area, but it was hard to make it show the crack, see the photo at the bottom, it's the best I could do. If the crack HADN'T been there, the vinyl would've gotten an EX grading, but now it is there and I don't really know how to grade it. As I wrote, it plays great despite the crack, listen to the soundclips below!
