The thick lustrous vinyl is nearly flawless, without marks, scuffs,or scratches of any kind. The fidelity is superb,with no distortion, pops, clicks,or background noise of any kind.


Jacket is in Near Mint condition. Original heavy and glossy jacket is in Near Mint condition. There are virtually no scuffs, or blemishes of any kind.There isa faded (DJ COPY) stamp on back.This lp is stored in the original inner sleeve. When Hootin' And Tootin' was recorded in 1962, the Blue Note label was primarily known for its hard bop and soul jazz recordings. Blue Note had debuted 1939 with boogie-woogie performances and, during its first seven years, it mostly covered swing and dixieland dates. In the mid-1940s, the thick-toned tenors of Ike Quebec and John Hardee led dates before Blue Note switched mostly to bop and hard bop. Fred Jackson's Hootin' And Tootin' is a somewhat unique Blue Note album for it has strong hints of early r&b in addition to the soul jazz playing. Jackson displays a big tone on tenor and his basic style, which is full of honks and tonal distortions, is a real crowd pleaser. Jackson had already spent years playing r&b and along the way he had stints in the bands of Little Richard and Lloyd Price. He was used by Blue Note on some jazz records including dates led by Baby Face Willette and Big John Patton, receiving his one chance to lead his own jazz date. Joined by a trio taken from Lloyd Price's band (including Earl Van Dyke on piano and organ), Jackson shows his mastery of blues, tearing into the bluesy material and making one wish that he had been given more opportunities to record in this format. As it turned out, Hootin' And Tootin' is a unique album for Fred Jackson soon permanently returned to r&b. It is a collector's item.
