We use a grading system similar to that of the Goldmine grading system. Every record is played to ensure proper grading. Every record comes to you in some sort of sleeve (picture, company, or plain white).

(NM) - Record doesn't show signs of wear. It should play perfect, without any background noise.
(VG++) - Record should play near perfectly. Shows a few signs of cosmetic wear.
(VG+) - A fine record. More signs of cosmetic wear. Might play with very light background noise, mostly at the start and/or finish.
(VG) - Expect background noise, but for the most part the music drowns it out. Still a good listening experience. Label might have writing/stickers/ringwear but should still be readable. Great bargain buy.
(VG-) - Record still has a strong sound, but the music doesn't always drown out any background noise, popping, etc. Label might be somewhat messy from pen marks/stickers/etc. but it's still readable. Very cheap buy!
