Description

FREE, Australian first edition of their classic debut 1969 album TONS OF SOBS.

Original first edition, released on Festival Records label in Australia under license from Island Records.

Housed in a single sleeve, laminated, flipback design. Back cover is different from UK issue (see photos). It has a band bio and excerpts of UK reviews of the album (it was released in Australia post its UK release) along with Stereo / Mono catalogue numbers, Festival Records info etc. Front cover has Festival records logo.

Back cover also contains promotional info about other prog/blues new releases thru Festival Records, by Blodwyn Pig, Fusion, T.I.M.E. etc...... "Big explosive juicy sounds - that's what FREE FORM is. Bubbling, gurgling, stunning, absolute progressive pop music with an array of new artists that will leave their mark on the pop scene in the seventies... Don't even try to put FREE FORM into a particular music bag..... ". Great stuff.

Vinyl is rated VG+. It has light surface marks as you'd expect for a record of this age, none of which can be felt by a fingertip, and one on the last track of Side 1 that can be felt (but just produces a couple of light pops). Test playing at high volume brought tears to my eyes - in a good way! This sounds much better than I expected. Just some acceptable and typical age crackle in the quiet parts but otherwise crisp and sharp. RIP Paul Kossoff.

Overall this is very much above average for its age.

Cover is rated VG++. No writing or tears, just a couple of creases top right, no seam splits, and only very faint signs of ringwear. The unlaminated back has some general light aging as you'd expect. Again, definitely above average for its age.

Labels have some spindle marks but not many. Side 1 has a price written neatly and quite small.
