FREE "TONS OF SOBS" Later 1970s edition of 1968 UK Blues Boom classic debut LP w/original gatefold cover (changed by A&M for U.S. release). Featuring Paul Rodgers (vocals)), Paul Kossoff (guitar), Andy Fraser (bass) & Simon Kirke (drums). Island ILPS 9089 M-/M.
Paul Kossoff (son of actor David Kossoff) & Simon Kirke had earlier played in the band Black Cat Bones. They recruited vocalist extraordinaire Paul Rodgers after hearing him at a local pub & then added Andy Fraser on bass to complete the line-up. They were taken under the wing of Alexis Korner who gave them their name & then soon signed by Chris Blackwell's Island Records as part of the British Blues Boom of 1968. Comparisons to Cream were inevitable but Free staked out a unique course thanks to Paul Rodgers vocals & Paul Kossoff's fine blues guitar work. Produced by the legendary Guy Stevens, this album contained some fine tracks such as "I'm A Mover", "The Hunter" & "Walk In My Shadow". Their world-wide smash "All Right Now" appeared in 1970 on the third LP "Fire & Water" but this debut LP from 1968 offers a fine glimpse into their formative years.

Gatefold cover is intact & looks good w/no writing or tears. It is graded near MINT due to negligible shelf wear (along the top, center). The UK stereo record is a later 1970s pressing w/orange & blue Island "Palm" labels w/no spindle marks. The record is in MINT condition & looks (& sounds) virtually brand new.
