Description

An original 1st issue of TOS on the UK Island label from 1969. Matrix A2/B2 - 1st cut. The First Press? NO! If you need very 1st press look for a pink label with the red bullseye logo [these are very 1st from March 1969]. What we have here is a 2nd label from summer 1969 - just three months later but whilst FREE were building their reputation. Remember, this LP was a very poor seller at 1st issue - it didn't even enter the charts in the UK! So, don't underestimate how early this copy is! Concentrate on as earlier a copy that you can get your hands on - but make sure you get a CLEAN copy! The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J Day cover gatefold cover. Please note the image on the cover is not perfectly in focus/alignment so it looks slightly more 'psychedelic' than other specimens! Also included is the original poly-lined generic white inner with 'patents pending'. So, 100% genuine  and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) A superbly preserved piece of vinyl with only lightest signs of use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - absolutely nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one very slight deviation. If you need the cleanest copy we can serve up then take notice of this example, because copies from 1969 do not often surface sounding this sweet. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much perfectly quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. The audio rolling off this copy is nothing short of stellar. Remember, this copy is just three month from those original masters - this is fantastic provenance. And it shows in the playback with terrific reproduction. The purity in the audio delivers the upbeat moments with energy and vitality. It also delivers those slower bluesy movements with accuracy and deftness. One very slight deviation - two slight ticks in 'I'm A Mover'..[very minor]. What's not to like..? I can't really imagine a better rendition. FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Vg+) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl. But an early original copy which has survived those years in fine form. Front and back are clean and flat without the usual surface wear - just a touch in the odd spot. Note there's a number sticker in the top left on the front. The interior looks great - those band photos look fantastic. There's a bit of edge wear in the odd spot - but nothing epic. The spine is above average with all text still mostly legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity largely thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) No splits. Bit of ageing in places.
