UK PINK RIM ISLAND VINYL LP IN THICK CARD E.J. DAY/OXFORD STREET ISLAND GATEFOLD SLEEVE. This the the 'third' pressing of this album, on heavy, high quality EMI early 1970s vinyl, the previous two issues are Pink Island Polydor era pressings - and, as collectables, the Pink Islands are of course the most sought after - but they are also extremely hard to find in clean condition and expensive. So, how does one obtain a great sounding pressing of this album without selling the silverware? (Every pressing after this pink rim is truly awful, we have heard them all and half the music is missing, as for the remastered CDs, just forget it folks - Free are meant to heard on vinyl). Well, you buy a decent pink rim - because this is the very first EMI pressing, cut and mastered by the genius George Peckham (Pecko/Porky) and pressed at EMI Hayes on quality EMI vinyl. This copy has the earliest set of mothers/stampers that we know of - the Side A: 1/G; Side B: 1/R set - so this pressing is one of the first 300 or so from the first lacquers mastered by Maesto Peckham. We have played this next to a Pink Island Polydor first pressing, and to be honest, it is really hard to tell the difference, if indeed, there is any - it may well just be they are mastered/eq'd slightly differently, the differences are so subtle - this particular pink rim is most definately a HOT STAMPER - it really sizzles, Kossoff's geetar soars and Rodgers voice is amazing - the bottom end of Andy Fraser's bass is superb - this really is a great pressing of a classic blues-rock debut album, you will not be disappointed when you hear this pressing.

SLEEVE: EXCELLENT MINUS/VERY GOOD++. NICE CLEAN HEAVY CARD WITH THE FOLLOWING 'DEFECTS' - VERY LIGHT SHELF AND EDGE WEAR, MINOR CORNER BUMPS, A FEW VERY SMALL NICKS/ABRASIONS - ONE OF THE BEST ORIGINAL SLEEVES WE HAVE SEEN IN A WHILE.
DISC: EXCELLENT MINUS. VERY CLEAN VINYL WITH NO SCRATCHES AND BARELY ANY SPINDLE WEAR. JUST A FEW VERY LIGHT HAIRLINES, BUT OVERALL A VERY SHINY SET OF SIDES WITH LOVELY CLEAN LABELS - THE DISC PLAYS AND SOUNDS SUPERB, JUST THE ODD STATIC TYPE POP OFTEN PRESENT IN OLDER VINYL IN QUIET PARTS, THIS COPY WILL SATISFY ALL BUT A PERFECTIONIST, WE HAVE NOT HAD SUCH A DECENT PINK RIM ISLAND PRESSING FOR A LONG TIME.
