FREE-FREE TYPE SINGLE LP- STEREO LABEL/PRESSING INFO
ISLAND FIRST PRESS PINK "i" LABELS with handscratched matrix numbers
CATALOGUE NUMBER ILPS-9104 YEAR OF RELEASE 1969 COUNTRY OF RELEASE U.K. SLEEVE TYPE GATEFOLD- E.J. DAY UNLAMINATED INSERTS/EXTRAS NONE GRADING/CONDITION DISC(s) VERY GOOD (Pressed on a nice lump of vinyl, black and shiny with LIGHT playwear and really only a couple of noticable marks, one on either side- and it is only right to report that these do have an impact on the reproduction on side 1 there is cyclical clicking and background noise on track 3 and clicking on track 5 and on side 2 clicking on the opening track. CLEAN SLEEVE with NO writing stickers or removal marks. Front board is clean with lightish storage wear, has a couple of small scuffs upper left and bottom right and a thin water line: INNER GATEFOLD is unmarked with only light wear
Rear board EX Rear white card is clean with light ageing and handling marking Flipbacks N/A N/A Spine G Well there is no two ways about it really it had all worn away to leave bare card it now has a piece of clear tape along the length Top & bottom edges VG Top and bottom edges have rubbing storage wear along all 4 lenghts Opening EX The opening has light wear and usage Corners VG All the corners have some rounding and wear. DETAILSFree's second album was recorded with the band itself in considerable turmoil as principle songwriters Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser demanded strict discipline from their bandmates, and guitarist Paul Kossoff, in particular, equally demanded the spontaneity and freedom that had characterized the group's debut. It was an awkward period that saw both Kossoff and drummer Simon Kirke come close to quitting, and only the intervention of label chief Chris Blackwell seems to have prevented it. Few of these tensions are evident on the finished album -- tribute, again, to Blackwell's powers of diplomacy. He replaced original producer Guy Stevens early into the sessions and, having reminded both warring parties where the band's strengths lie, proceeded to coax out an album that stands alongside its predecessor as a benchmark of British blues at the turn of the 1960s.
