I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection this summer and pulling out some LPs that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 40 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors. This week on EBay I am offering up this very cool French pressing of the classic Beatles 1962-1966 'Red' Greatest Hits album.
This is my original French Pressing copy on Apple, pressed by EMI Pathe Marconi that I've had for many many years.
Condition is a strong VG+, Not perfect, but no significant issues. It does have some light, expected play wear and a few very light, superficial scratches. Nothing major and it still sounds terrific. I'm sure you'll be happy with it! (The 'white' spots on my pics of the vinyl are artifacts from lighting).
This is one of those albums that deserves to be in every collection, so why not have a cool French pressing instead of the much more common USA version.
This copy still has the red, thick stock, inner lyric sleeves but one of them has a 'notch' missing out of a top corner. (Don't remember how that happened?!). These French inner sleeves are much nicer than the flimsy American ones.
The gatefold jacket still looks very nice. Clean, bright, square, with no ring wear. It is slightly different looking than the American jacket, but still has the classic 'before and after' balcony shots on the front and back.
It has the Pathe Marconi and EMI logos and is clearly stamped 'Made in France'. This is the early, original 1973 French pressing with the '156...' catalog number, not the later '162...' number. It has the 1973 price code on the back, 2xC, in a circle. (See pics).
The outside of the jacket is beautifully laminated, so still looks great. Clean, bright, shiny. The inside of the gatefold was not laminated and shows some mild 'foxing' acquired over time. Not bad, just thought it should be mentioned. Seam and Spine, internally and externally, look fine with very little wear.
The record labels look great. Very cool looking French 'Apple' labels, with the sliced Apple. Spindle holes are relatively clean and the labels look pristine. Very different label layout and font compared to the US version.
Overall, a very nice copy and a great record to add to your collection. If you only have a few Beatles albums in your collection, this 'Red' 1962-1966 Greatest hits album should be one of them, along with Pepper and Revolver. A true classic.
~~~~ This album documents the band at the height of their 'Beatlemania' period. The song selection is fantastic, considering how hard it is to compile a record of the 'best' Beatle songs.
Not only are the key album tracks and singles well represented, but attention is paid to lesser known tracks and B-sides such as “Nowhere Man,” “In My Life,” "Drive My Car," "Norwegian Wood," "Girl" and "In My Life."
Of course, no Beatles compilation will ever tell a complete story, but this works as a great sampler of their best known early material and an essential overview of the band's rapid ascent to Stardom.
Beatles 1962-1966 is simply one of the best 'greatest hits' compilations ever assembled. It's a great listen. One long continuous ride, each song a masterpiece.
~~~~~~ These 'Red' and 'Blue' albums were actually the brainchild of Beatle villain, and onetime manager, Allen Klein who put these classic albums together and released them in the Spring of 1973, while all the individual Beatles were busy with their own Solo projects.
I'm old enough to remember clearly when these first came out, buying them with saved 'lunch' money, and how great they sounded compared to our beat up copies of the Capitol LPs and our scratchy 45s. These 'Red' and 'Blue' albums were amazing sonic masterpieces at the time, blew our little minds, and they still sound great today.
This is an original Apple release, pressed in France by Pathe Marconi, using EMI plates. This EMI/Marconi pressing sounds MUCH better than the US pressing, which actually sounds quite good itself.
~~~~~ Add this classic, 'Beatles 1962-1966' album to your collection today. It would make a great addition to any vinyl record collection.
~~~~~ I’m recently retired and downsizing and letting go some gems and rarities from nearly 45 years of vinyl record collecting. Check out the many other fantastic 45s and 33s coming soon to my page! All records have been carefully evaluated and graded by me. I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally gently clean them with a soft cloth and then, if unsure, play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true picture of condition. Please look at all the high-resolution pictures I added. They are all my own and are of the actual record being sold. The pictures are part of the description and can show small details, label variations, and condition better than I can put into words.
My grading is fair and honest and I will ALWAYS refund you for anything you’re not happy with. I have had over 3,200 happy and satisfied EBay customers over the years, with 100% positive feedback, and I have been buying/selling on EBay for well over 20 years, so please bid with confidence!
I'm a 0ne-man operation, this is a hobby, not my job. I do this for fun. I do this because I love music, love collecting vinyl and want others to share in that same experience. I take my time listening, researching, grading, listing and packaging. I will NOT sell any record that I personally would not want in my collection.
As you well know, packing and shipping rare records requires special care and attention, therefore, shipping cost within the lower 48 states is $5.00 on this item. If you would like insurance, or anything faster than Media/Economy Mail, please let me know and I can arrange it for you. I’ll work with you to make sure you’re happy!
I will gladly combine multiple records, or other items on my page, and make the shipping much less for you. I don’t inflate the shipping costs; they are what they are. I strive to keep them as low as possible. See my feedback for comments on my quality packing and shipping.
All items are packaged with sturdy cardboard mailers and appropriate padding. I take pride in my packaging and shipping and package all my records as if I were sending them to myself.
