Furniture's singer Jim Irvin may be busier nowadays behind the scenes, co-writing with some well-known names such as Nothing But Thieves, The Amazons, Black Honey and Yungblud. However, in the mid-80s Irvin was chasing success himself and released The Wrong People through Stiff Records in 1986. It was a genre-travelling marvel that reflected the high level of musicality that this aspirational London-based new wave band had. The album single 'Brilliant Mind' did well, reaching the top 30 in the UK charts. Financial issues with their record label reportedly hampered the success of the following singles from it but it doesn't take away from the fact that this is a remarkable body of work by one of London's finest 80s pop groups.
