Description

PRESENTING THE COUNTRY BLUES by FURRY LEWIS up for auction.  Released on BLUE HORIZON (7-63228) in 1969 and is STEREO.  Pressed in ENGLAND.
Produced by MIKE VERNON and recorded at ARDENT STUDIOS in Memphis.  JOHN FRY was the engineer & SEYMOUR STEIN was executive producer.  TERRENCE IBBOTT took the photo and designed the amazing cover.  Liner notes by PAUL OLIVER.
FURRY LEWIS was , of course, the quintessential Memphis Bluesman.  He actually lived just off of BEALE STREET and began his career working with the great W.C. HANDY.  Over the years he worked with JIM JACKSON, WILL SHADE'S MEMPHIS JUG BAND & GUS CANNON's JUG STOMPERS.  After being rediscovered by SAMUEL CHARTERS in 1959 he went on to have a successful career right up to his death in 1981.  Some latter day highlights include opening for the ROLLING STONES, touring with LEON RUSSELL and appearing as himself in BURT REYNOLDS' W.W. AND THE DIXIE DANCE KINGS.
MIKE VERNON produced such acts as FLEETWOOD MAC, TEN YEARS AFTER, JOHN MAYALL & THE BLUESBREAKERS, CHICKEN SHACK, SAVOY BROWN, FOCUS and blues greats such as EDDIE BOYD, BUKKA WHITE, OTIS SPANN, JOHNNY SHINES, CHAMPION JACK DUPREE, JOE CALLICOTT, SUNNYLAND SLIM and a host of others.
I purchased this LP in the UK about 15 years and it promptly went into storage.  I never played it and I am now visually grading it as I no longer have a turntable.  I am being very conservative.  First of all, there are no markings around the spindle so it is quite possible that this has never been played at all.  That said, since I can't play it to grade it I will call it MINT-.  The vinyl is pristine in my opinion.  I'm sure you won't be disappointed.  Cover is VG+++.  There is a tiny bit of wear on the upper and lower left hand corners of the cover.  There is also a slight bubbling of the laminate on the lower right hand front cover.  There some slight ring wear on the rear.  Again, you will not be disappointed.  All in all, this LP is in wonderful shape.  14 day money back guarantee if you feel otherwise.
