Description
The Societe Wilhelm Furtwangler of France issued this 2 LP set containing rare concert recordings of WEBER, BRAHMS and BRUCKNER.
SWF 8203 includes:
Furtwaengler conducting the Berlin Philharmonic in a LIVE concert from March , 1944, of Weber's Der Freischütz and
from December, 1943, a performance of Brahms, Haydn Variations.
SWF 8204 has the incandescent performance of Anton Bruckner's Sinfonie Nr. 5 - one of only two performances we have of Furtwangler conducting this work.
Recorded by German Radio, probably on Magnetophon (the great German magnetic recording tape invention),
The two LPs appear unplayed with no marks or scuffs. There is shelf wear to the heavy sleeves. The gatefold albums include archival photographs as well as a dsicography of Furtwangler’s performances during the war.
Issued by for its members in 1982, in small quantities of less than 1000. These pressings far exceed any other LP and CD issues for sound.
