Description

Wilhelm Furtwängler conducts the Berlin Philharmonic in a LIVE concert from December 1943.  From 12 – 15 December 1943, Furtwaengler conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker in an all - Brahms concert.  Recorded by German Radio, probably on Magnetophon (the great German magnetic recording tape invention), the concert consisted of:

Brahms, Sinfonie Nr. 4, Op. 98

AND

Brahms Klavier Konzert Nr. 2, Op. 83 with Adrian Aeschbacher

The two LPs appear unplayed with no marks or scuffs.  There is shelf wear to the heavy sleeves.  The gatefold albums include archival photographs as well as documentation of Furtwangler’s performances of Brahms, including a list of his performances of the two piano concertos (with soloists such as Edwin Fischer, Erik Then-Bergh (whose performance of the Furtwangler Symphonic Concerto for Orchestra  with Rafael Kubelik conducting was released on Tahra), Schnabel, Backhaus and Gieseking).

Issued by the Societe Wilhelm Furtwangler of France for its members in June, 1985, in small quantities of less than 1000.  SWF 8502 (Piano Concerto) and SWF 7102 R (Symphony). These pressings far exceed any other LP and CD issues for sound.
