Bill Wolff had been in Sound Machine, The Psychedelic Rangers (an early Doors incarnation) 

and the Peanut Butter Conspiracy, whilst Gary Marker had been in the Rising Sons 

with Ry Cooder and also Sound Machine.  Marker, Lane, Matzkin, Luther and Ry Cooder were 

also briefly in a band called 'The Jazz Folk', but when this group broke up Marker, Lane, Luther 

formed a goup 'The New World Jazz Company' with future Spirit members Ed Cassidy, 

John Locke and Randy California. When the later three went off to form Spirit, 

Kevin Kelly was brought in on drums to form the first version of Fusion but he quickly 

left to join the Byrds and Richard Matzkin was brought back in to finally form the group 

that recorded the album, Border Town. The record consists mainly of blues rock 

with a lot of tasty slide guitar. Side two sees the group exploring some new areas 

with some jazz and country influences. The highlight of the album is the extended closing

instrumental track Erebus which has a strong jazz rock feel...(Fuzz Acid & Flowers)
