In the heady "R&B boom" days of 1964, a lot of strange music got dubbed "rhythm & blues" in the UK. This is a case in point. In spite of recycling an old blues tune (Tight Like That) and offering a barely disguised, and actually pretty good reworking of Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk" (Tan Tan blues), the Fabulous Blue Beats were a proto-ska/reggae group of Jamaicans. Quite scarce these days, as is Volume 2. The sleeve is in very decent condition, but has a cryptic note scrawled on the back with a green felt-tipped pen. Difficult to read, but it appears to say, "2 saved - 1 for Pitifull Bob, 1 for station". Whether this copy belonged to the station or Pitifull Bob I cannot say. Interestingly, Ace records used precisely the same photograph on their "King New Breed Rhythm & Blues" collection almost 40 years later. The record is in excellent condition.
