This auction is for a FAIRCHILD Record cutting Lathe – model 740, serial number 18, an absolutely amazing piece of engineering. The lathe comes complete with Mono B.B.C MoY cutting head which has feedback to cutting amplifier, two new cutting needles, vacuum pump for securing blank discs to turn table, basic hand book (some pages missing), power supply for power feed motor and step down transformer for mains supply (240volts to 110volts), also included are three boxes of blank discs (about 200-300 I guess) these are mainly card based but there’s quite a lot of really nice ones including some flexi discs.

The lathe is equipped with a swarf vacuum-removing nozzle, (this is basically a hose which attaches to a vacuum cleaner to remove the swarf from under the cutting needle as it cuts).

Here’s some specifications for the Fairchild 740 lathe, cuts at 33/45/78 rpm, has adjustable power feed on groove pitch axis (the manual power feed has been removed as this was never 100% reliable), heater for cutting needle (if required), Micro Scope with light for checking groove quality and spec, adjustable damping on cutting head mechanism, wooden stand with rubber shock mounts to prevent unwanted vibration…An aperture is present for a tone arm if you wish to fit one…. Please have a look at the pictures below… Everything is in perfect working order and all that’s required is an Amplifier of some kind, a normal HiFi amplifier will do the job but a valve cutter Amplifier will bring out the best of this machine.

I can send this item but please give me time to do so as it will need to be dismantled before shipping. I’m only guessing at the shipping cost but it will be around the £50 - £80 mark, I’ll only charge what it cost me though. Collection is welcome and I might consider meeting halfway within reason.
