Description
Manuel deFalla's ballet, 'The Three Cornered Hat', performed by Ernest Ansermet and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande on a London (ie US Decca) wideband/deep groove label (see the third photo). The lost wax bears matrix numbers '3-E' and '1-E'. Serial number is CS6224. As the sleeve notes point out, Ansermet had a special relationship with this work, having conducted the first performance, in London in 1919. This not only featured Diaghilev's legendary Ballet Russe dancers, but also had the further distinction of sets designed by Picasso!
The record has always been glossy, but now really shines after careful processing by my Moth machine. There are quite a few spindle marks but there is very little audible crackling. I would say that the record warrants a 'Near Mint' or 'Ex+' assessment. More importantly, this is one of the those recordings that made Decca's name for sound quality - it is still of demonstration class, and I can remember using this as a test record the last time I upgraded my vinyl playing gear. The thick card sleeve is in amazing condition, with just a tiny bit of discolouration on the edges. The record has been put into a new paper inner, but I've kept the original bag with the nice London 'ffss' logo.
I'm finishing off the disposal of my personal record collection on eBay after a year or so off following back surgery. Ready in the pipeline are some great jazz albums, including Mosaic boxes, the remainder of my 90's rock, and a load of classical, including some more Decca SXLs. Previous buyers have complimented me on the quality of my packing, and I intend to keep the standard up - the record will be taken out of the outer sleeve, and both then filmed onto a internal stiffener. The whole lot then goes into a proper card record mailer. My standard postage rates are £3 for UK, £5 for Europe and £7 for everywhere else. These charges just cover the postage, maybe with a little over for packaging materials, but I do my best to ensure that the record arrives in the same condition that it left.
