This recording received glowing praise in the Stereo Record Guide (Vol.3) “Ansermet’s account of Falla’s complete score is both vivid and dramatic and Decca have given the conductor one of their best recordings”
E.M.G.Monthly Letter gave a maximum two stars for performance and a recommendation for demonstration sound quality.
Robert Moon & Michael Gray in their book FFSS gave nine out of ten for performance and ten out of ten for sound quality. "A brilliant and dramatic performance recorded with great clarity and presence.
Record Condition (Play graded throughout)
Prior to playing, the record was cleaned on my Moth Record Cleaning Machine. Playback equipment comprised a Thorens TD160, Linn Basik LVX Arm with Audio Technica AT-95E Cartridge.
The record was examined in bright sunlight and has a number of non-sounding marks on both sides.
The record plays virtually without fault. There are eight, faint repetitive ticks near the start of the Neighbour’s Dance and two loud repetitive ticks on side two followed by two further loud ticks. There is no deterioration in sound quality whatsoever, a fantastic record with stunning sound.
The sleeve has a 120mm (four and a half inch) tear on the front as indicated by the pencil in the photograph. This has been repaired internally with cellotape. There are also a number of creases at the top left corner and down the opening edge. The reverse is very clean with just a mark where a sticky label has been removed from the top right hand corner, the number 83 is clearly visible.
