ROOM AT THE CROSS FOR YOU (3:00) Joan Tousley Northen is a “sacred singer” in the true sense of the phrase. She sings from the heart and her marvelous voice has brought joy and beauty to thousands of admirers. She is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, the mother of five children, and her hus- band, Harold, is a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg. Joan began her singing career as a child, studied voice with Mr. Bon Byrd, and has been a soloist at the Second Baptist Church in Fayetteville for seven years. In addition to her church work, Mrs. Northen has appeared in major revivals in South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, as well as in her own state. Civic organiza- tions have sought her talent and she has sung at the Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium, at the U.S.O. and for the Christian Women’s Clubs. Although Mrs. Northen has devoted most of her time to sacred music, she has also provided theatre-goers immense pleasure through her stage appearances. At the Ft. Bragg Playhouse she first performed in the musical “Carousel” as Nettie Fowler. Her rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” stopped the performance every night and she has included the moving song in this album. Her next role came the following year in “The Sound of Music” with the part of the Mother Abbess. Audiences again were deeply touched as she sang “Climb Every Moun- tain”. In both productions the reviewers singled out Mrs. Northen for special praise, not only for the richness of her voice, but for the warmth of her personality as well. “THE WONDER OF IT ALL” is dedicated to a Baptist minister and friend, Reverend Sim Smith, who has been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to Mrs. Joan Northen throughout the years. Mrs. Lalon Willoughby, Pianist, is a native of Sampson County and now resides with her husband, Wilbur Willoughby, in Fayette- ville. She is Mrs. Northen’s regular accompanist and has been with her for six years. Mrs. Louise Brigman, organist, has been with Mrs. Northen for three years. She is a native of Saint Pauls, N. C. and now resides in Fayetteville with her husband, Bobby, and two children
