various -- The Last Testament LP
Original 1983 UK release on Fetish Records (UK) (catalog # FR2011), with liner notes/photo innersleeve which includes "goodbye" letters from Jon Savage and Sandy Robertson, as well as a release catalogue with photos of sleeve artwork. Sleeve message states: "Four years in a cage, now the cage is yours. We've been here and gone.".Scarce comp of top-shelf post-punk/experimental/minimal-synth/industrial/no-wave recordings from 1979-82. Many of these tracks are not available anywhere else.
discogs Review: Sadly, as history has it, independent movement remains a mistery as well as a failure - apart from offering music otherwise unavailable, the lack of confidence to produce authentic music and stay aside from greed and commerciality of the whole thing, many innocent labels suffered for the sake of others. Fetish Records in that respect was a perspective label with various talents involved, ranging from pure pop to industrial heaviness - 'The Last Testament' is ironic in both, the sleeve and the concept of a farewell album, collecting all of the artists that once recorded for Fetish. Worth noting are of course, 23 Skidoo (especially a piss-off closing number 'Hawaii 5.0'), Clock DVA's rare live recording, Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire, Z'ev and Throbbing Gristle - but there were also American 'no wave' acts such as 8-Eyed Spy, plus Bush Tetras and The Bongos... and a minor synthie-something duo WKGB. Sadly, this LP remains a mystery with its unlikely sound combinations - those who own it are bastards luckier for one hell of a sonic experience.Tracks:
