Description
Between 1970 and 1971 The Firesign Theatre performed a one hour live show on radio station KPFK Radio in Los Angeles titled Dear Friends. These live shows were recorded by the group and then edited into a slightly shorter shows which the group syndicated to radio stations across the country on 12 inch white label LPs. I reluctantly part with these rare vinyl albums after 39 years. The four members of Firesign Theatre were inspired by American and British radio drama and comedy and combined those influences with their own Woodstock era creativity to create a unique form of recorded and live performance comedy-satire that still holds up today. As a college disc jockey from 1970 to 1973 my cohorts and I played these disks, memorized the bits, and created our own — rather weak — imitations of the Firesign Theatre.
The LPs are in their original white paper sleeves, some with annotations from radio station staff. Most tracks and sides are in good shape, while some have pops and scratches. I can't take the time to do an inventory of each track's condition here. If you are a Firesign Theatre fan and admirer as I still am, you are bound to appreciate the 10 full hours of brilliant satire recorded here; in the days when public radio and college radio was at its zenith of free-form creativity. Very few radio stations received these disks.
