This beautiful LP from Capitol (P 8493, UK EMI pressing, rainbow label, mono, laminated flipback jacket) features Rudolf Firkusny’s deeply felt accounts of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas No. 21 in C Major Op. 53 “Waldstein” and No. 30 in E Major Op. 109, recorded in 1959.

This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the piano will find much to admire here.

This album was produced by Richard Jones, who also supplies the erudite and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket – printed in English only. The striking cover photo of Firkusny – note the cigarette in hand – is uncredited, alas.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor edgewear, more so at corners, as well as light creasing and shelfwear. However, there are no bends, seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
