This album was the first available fruit of the last four-piece line-up for the Flaming Lips. The band had been together for about a year, and this album shows a most cohesive band firing its way onto yet another trajectory, with a set of songs where the chaos has receded and allowed some the strong pop sensibilities to come shining through. One of the most striking things about this album is the drumming. The Flaming Lips have always had good drummers but Steven Drozd is something else. The drum sound is partly due to producer/engineer Keith Cleversley, but the way Steven hits them is clearly special. The crisp attack of his playing brings a new power to the Lips sound. When you combine that with some great songs and add a layer of new strange but friendly guitar noise, these
