Description
In grading vinyl records there are 2 separate grades taken into account, one being the cover/sleeve grade which is based solely on its physical and visual condition. The vinyl grade has guidelines from Goldmine, eBay and others that describe the visual condition of a record at different grades.
I took the time to play/test each one of the records individually side by side. Therefore, the grade I have suggested for the vinyl itself is based heavily (sometimes almost completely) on the audio quality, sound dynamics, play-ability, and overall noise of the record.
I personally own/collect and listen to my own vinyl and I don't expect anyone else to care that much about how clean the surface of a record looks if when played it sounds terrible or is audibly unbearable. The ratio of visual wear vs. audible noise will most often follow an obvious trend. Because I have listened to the records individually, the 'Vinyl' conditions I have noted are intended to specifically highlight and reflect the current overall audio quality and capacity for dynamics of the vinyl record.
~ Some records are pictured without a paper inner sleeve or with a sleeve from the wrong album or record label. Most records were switched back with the correct inner sleeve and any other records were given a standard thick white #20 paper inner sleeve with rounded edges for easy insertion, storage and protection.
I used Goldmine's 6th and 7th editions, as well as a few other grading guides including eBay's for reference. The 1-10 scale I adopted and adhered to as a guideline throughout the grading process is as follows:
