redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rare LP from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPEM 136 027, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features the splendid Hungarian pianist Andor Foldes in magnificent performances of 4 piano works by Ludwig van Beethoven, all recorded in the warm acoustics of the Beethoven-Saal, Hannover on 7 July 1958.
Though he is more readily associated with the music of Bartok, Foldes was a discerning interpreter over a wide range of repertoire, from Bach to Copland. These four Beethoven performances are brought off with complete mastery and beautiful tone.
Included are the following works:
Piano Sonata No. 21 in C Major Op. 53 “Waldstein”
Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor Op. 57 “Appassionata”
Rondo No. 1 in C Major Op. 51 No. 1
Rondo No. 2 in G Major Op. 51 No. 2
There are fine liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German, French, English, and Spanish. The striking cover art is similarly uncredited. The jacket carries the publication date of October 1959.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is bumping/wear at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
